Two Killed, Over Twenty Wounded in Pakistan Twin Explosions

(MENAFN) Twin explosions rocked Pakistan on Monday, claiming two lives and leaving 25 people wounded across two volatile provinces where militant violence has intensified dramatically in recent months.

The deadliest attack struck Chatkan Bazaar in Panjgur district within Balochistan province, where authorities confirmed one fatality and 16 casualties. A district police control room official briefed media via telephone, characterizing the incident as "apparently an IED blast targeting civilians."

Law enforcement and military units rapidly sealed the blast zone, initiating extensive sweep operations to gather forensic evidence and neutralize potential secondary threats.

Hours later, a second improvised explosive device detonated in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province's Lakki Marwat district, killing one individual and injuring nine others. The device targeted a cement company vehicle, according to police statements reported by local a broadcaster.

Neither bombing has been claimed by any militant organization thus far.

The twin attacks follow a violent 24-hour period that saw four police officers slain in separate assaults across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Sunday. Three officers died in a suspected militant ambush in Lakki Marwat district, prompting immediate counteroffensive operations.

A civil administration official, speaking anonymously to media, confirmed that retaliatory strikes killed one insurgent during subsequent clashes, while another officer sustained injuries. Security forces continue active operations in the region.

Pakistan faces an escalating wave of extremist violence, with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces bearing the brunt of coordinated terrorist campaigns that have surged dramatically over the past several years.
