China’s FM condemns US military intervention in Venezuela

(MENAFN) China’s foreign minister criticized the US military operation in Venezuela that led to the capture of President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, saying Beijing opposes the use or threat of force and rejecting the notion that any country can act as a “world policeman,” according to state-run media.

“China always opposes the use or threat of force, as well as any imposition of one country's will on another,” Wang Yi said during a meeting with Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar in Beijing, referring to Saturday’s US raid that transported Maduro and his wife to New York to face drug charges.

Wang described the current global landscape as “increasingly volatile and complex, with unilateral bullying on the rise,” and noted that the sudden developments in Venezuela have drawn significant international attention.

Beijing previously issued two statements on the US operation, expressing “shock” and “condemnation” while demanding the immediate release of Maduro and his wife.

“We never believe that any country can play the role of world policeman, nor do we agree that any country can claim itself to be an international judge,” Wang added, stressing that the sovereignty and security of all nations must be fully respected.

Venezuela reported that US forces attacked civilian and military sites across multiple states on Saturday, declaring a national emergency. President Donald Trump confirmed the “large scale” strike and said the United States would temporarily “run” Venezuela to ensure a safe transition and restore the country’s “broken” oil infrastructure.

Separately, Pakistan expressed concern over the situation and emphasized the need for restraint and de-escalation. Islamabad said it is “closely monitoring” developments and remains committed to safeguarding the Pakistani community in Venezuela, while urging all parties to adhere to UN principles and international law to resolve the crisis.
